Press Release Body: "The Arts of Gabriel Polonsky\" will fill the Gallery on the Plaza at The New England Institute of Art in Brookline from January 15 through March 3, 2008.
Polonsky began creating award-winning, internationally exhibited drawings and films at a very young age. His richly diverse artwork now spans four decades and includes illustration, animation, drawings, cartoons, caricatures, design and sculptures.
Polonsky's illustrations have appeared, for the past 22 years, in the Boston Globe, among countless other publications. His animation character designs have appeared in Miramax feature films. He's created mixed-media on-air promos for Cartoon Network, The Sci-Fi and Discovery Channels, a live action spot for Volkswagen and his Emmy-nominated animated titles have lent artistic flair to a PBS TV series. "I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pencil or pen in my hand," says Polonsky. In addition to his latest commissions, he'll be sharing some of his earliest works, which he admits, echo the same style he continues to use in his current illustrations.
Polonsky entered the world of commercial animation at Olive Jar Animation, Boston in 1988 where he served as Co-Director, Head Animator, Art Director, Technical Director, Fabricator and Sculptor for national clay and stop-motion TV spots.
In 1992, Polonsky left Olive Jar and founded Gabriel Polonsky Studio, specializing in the full production of 2D, stop motion and clay animation, mixed media, live action and digital effects. The EMMY-nominated studio has been creating, among other projects, uniquely styled TV commercials, show opens, network IDs, web, industrial and educational projects.
He is currently teaching the next generation of animators and designers at The New England Institute of Art.
An artist reception will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM in the Gallery on the Plaza. The Gallery is located at The New England Institute of Art, 10 Brookline Place West, across from the Brookline Village T stop on the Green Line and at the intersections of Harvard and Washington Streets.
